Hey Brans.....my comment was for Lee. He can't believe motors have been built without service manuals. He is going to hold a class on gaskets and leaks.
Bottom line is some of the best tricks, shortcuts and "how to's" are not even in the service manuals. They were created when the service manuals proved to not always be the best way. All of my expertise comes from "two guys garage"....the leaders in automotive tech. lol Serious side note though: You really need to realize that the torque spec is for the FASTENER and not the part. Torquing is about stretching. If you use and aftermarket fastener like ARP, you must use their specs and the the OE one.
