How do you adjust head lights?

I know how to adjust them. But how far from the wall do park the truck, and how for up do you put a mark on the wall, and how far apart are the marks. I think they should be adjusted on low beam. When I was a VW mechanic the shop had a mark on the wall. Thanks.

Re: How do you adjust head lights?

I've always adjusted them 10 feet from the wall and straight ahead, on high beam. Never had a come back.

Re: How do you adjust head lights?

I've seen methods that said you had to be 25-ft from a wall and on a level surface.

If you have a Chilton's or a Haynes manual or go on-line, you'll find diagrams of what they think you should do.

I have a AC delco headlamp aiming kit. I thought everybody owned one.

Re: How do you adjust head lights?

I knew someone had to have it. Around here, there are no vehicle inspections so finding someone who has the aiming equipment is like snipe hunting. Until you posted having one, I didn't know where it went.
