What am I missing? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I just bought this truck and have a problem with the A/C ventilation control panel. I guess thats what you call it. You know the thing with the slide stuff for controlling temp, heater and defroster, and etc. Anyway the levers were binding up and acting very weird. I just removed it from the truck and inspected to figure out what was wrong. The back pivot point for the three lever was coming out of the bottom hole and messing up all the function. My question is the top of the pivot point looks like there should be a plate attached to two pins on either side and then over top of the pivot pin to prevent it from coming out of the bottom hole and maintaining it centered. I don't have a plate there but sure think there should be one. Does anyone have one of these handy that they can look at and let me know what is on top of the pivot pin?

That's a good pic.

While you are working on it, I would suggest going into the duct work and checking the diverter box. Make sure the flapper is working properly.

There should be a small plate that spans across the three points. You can make one with a drill pretty easy. Common prorblem as the plate was held in place by the two outer points pertruding the plate and then being peened over to hold the plate in place. I have just drilled out the piece and used very small screws with epoxy. It works fine. Good luck

Thanks for the information. I figured it was something like that. Huck, you used screws through the to posts. That would be some real small screws. I like that idea though and will do the same thing you did with the screws and epoxy.

I bought a kit to rebuild mine.Took about 3 hours but I painted and cleaned it all up then lubed the cables so it would slide easier.I think the kit was $10.00 or 12.00 about 3 years ago and I got it at the Pace swap meet in Arlington Tx.
