The new addition

I finally aquired the truck I have been waiting to get since late last year. In a few weeks work will start.

Re: The new addition

nice

the next truck i get will be a stepside, preferably a 73-80 model

edit: you know what i HATE?!? the fact that you can have a 5"+ air filter and i cant! the biggest i can fit is a 4" (not that i need even that much, but the tall ones look so badass!)

Re: The new addition

Very nice truck.

How's Vallejo these days? I was stationed at Mare Island from 90-92 and my wife's from there. I always wondered how that town went after the base closed.

Re: The new addition

As of now the only things I have done is new rotors and pads up front and removing the grill (it made lots of noise). Plans include swaping to the correct front end, fleetside bed, adding power doors from the Burb, 406, 700R4 along with other things.

After the base closed, Vallejo seemed to go downhill. Now it seems to be on steady rise. Lots of new housing, including on Mare Island, and shopping centers. Even the old Marine World has been revamped and is now called Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. There is even talk of a waterfront mall on Mare Island. All in all it seems to be on the up and up.

I don't know if it was like that when you were stationed there but all the roads on Mare Island are terrible.

Yeah it's strange to see them side by side, the 73-80 front end is just massive.

Cool that it's on it's way back up. Would be even cooler to live on Mare Island. Very scenic place. They announced base closings when I was there, and I think it was another year or two before it closed up totally. The roads were awful back then, and I can imagine what 15 more years of neglect would do.

Hey, got any idea on specs on that thing? Stuff like wheel/tire size and how much it was lowered? I got a 78 stepside myself that would look wicked standing just like that. Looks great.

The previous owner installed 2 1/2 inch drop spindles and cut the coils up front. In back there are lowered shackles and hangers with 2 leafs removed from the spring pack. I would say it would be around a 5/6 drop. As for the wheels and tires they are 15X8 with a 245/60R15 tire. I do plan on swapping out the front springs with correct drop springs and redoing the rear with a flip kit.

Great looking truck. Are you like really close to scraping oil pan or something? Maybe it's the shadows, but something looks really close to scraping some pavement in that first pic.

By the way, got more pics?

I see what you are talking about and I'm not sure what that is. The headers and the control arms are the lowest point on the truck so I would think it is one of those. I have certainly had my fair share of road scrapes in this truck. As far as the pics, all the ones I have are pretty much the same. Any thing in particular that you would like to see? I plan on taking quite a few during the intire build process.

I think you have the correct front end and bed on it right now. Make it not green and it will be perfect. Sounds like it will be a sharp truck, though.

This truck was sold earlier this year. I have too many projects and someone just happened to make me an offer so I took it. I hope to get another sometime after I finish my Novas.
