putting 68 396 into 71 c10

Will a 396 automatic out of a 68 3/4 ton truck work in my 71 c10? Could I just use the mounting hardware out of the 68? Didn't know if there were frame differences with the donor truck being a 3/4 ton and a 68.

Thanks!

It will bolt up for the most part. Make sure you grab the frame towers for the engine mounts, those are big block specific.

So if I have the donor truck, I should have everything I need? Will this motor run on regular or will it need premium?

Is the engine stock, if it is regular will be ok depending on how far the timing is advanced.

I have '73 454 and it runs ok on regular gasoline.

I'm pretty sure it's stock. Still has qjet and cast iron manifolds.

If everything is still on the donor, you should be good to go.

My 402 runs just fine on 87 octane.

I would put a can of SeaFoam in the gas tank with the next fill-up. I usually do that when an engine has not been ran for a while. Most auto parts stores carry it.
