5.3 swap question

I am currently running a 97 vortec motor with a nv3500. I am wanting to swap in a 5.3, my question is will the flywheel off of the vortec motor bolt up to the 5.3 and if not what flywheel do I need to use. I was also wondering if the 5.3 responded well to changing the heads and cam with a car intake.

Re: 5.3 swap question

You need a 4.8L flywheel 99-06.

The right head and cam combo easily gets you 100hp+. Truck intakes have more torque than car intakes.

Re: 5.3 swap question

On the ls1tech and performance truck website ive seen several people that you actually see more results from a 5.3 or 6.0 I cant say as to why as I had 2 ls1s and now just getting into the truck side (6.0). main thing to remember is no matter the displacement the genIII are mostly the same setup most heads and cam are interchangable so you will see very simular changes in power.

Re: 5.3 swap question

A stock car intake is said to be not very worth the hassle of converting in a truck. And from ive read from 4.8/5-speed guys, a nv3500 won't like being shifted at the rpm needed to utilize the car intake. The trailblazer ss intake is better flowing, but is better suited for a truck application

You may need the LS7 pilot bushing like the write-up. The 4.8L flywheel has bolt holes that match the old clutches so you're good there. The bellhousing will bolt up except for one top right bolt. DO NOT try tapping this hole, it is fine as-is.
