At home Top Repair

As my Blazer gets closer and closer to being ready for a new coat of paint I hit a snag. I'm running out of funds and was considering fiberglassing the top up on my own. Has anybody else attempted this? I want to save some money but don't want to go and ruin my top.

One more thing, I saw a pic of someones Blazer on here and it had rear interior panels that ran along the bedsides. Are those original? Thanks guys. I'll shoot some pics of mine as soon as it stops raining here.

If you were talking about the original fiberglass top - all you have to do is strip it down to the gel coat and sand it real nice and fix any spider webs with fiberglass and some glass mat - if there is any bad spots.

Prime it with a universal primer and spot putty and paint and you ought to have a real nice looking top.

Usually the back window is the worst part. The locks falls apart and you have to repair the clips and the latches or replace the whole lock set.

Yes the interior panels are factory. My 72 Jimmy has them as well as the double wall top.

Interested in this as well, as the corners in the rear of my top are pretty bad and could use to be rebuilt.

Also interested in this as my top has a couple cracks...the top is also bowed (double top)

For small repairs like broken or chipped edges, I've had good results with gluing in a wood backing (small piece of wood paint stirer works well) and using Bondo to finish and contour. I then use a marine deck paint to finish. For cracks and spidering that resulted from flexing of the top, I would do as recommended previously and sand down to gel coat and repair with resin and fiberglass.
