Which truck to buy... 71 GMC LWB BB 28k miles or 72 4x4?
Which truck would you buy... 71 GMC LWB 402 BB or 72 4x4 6 cylinder 4 speed LWB? The 71 BB claims to have 28k original miles original paint but has rust in the rockers, cab corners and roof. It was used as a camper truck and was parked since 1987. It is an A/C truck and auto tranny all original but has rust. The 72 is a chevy 4x4 LWB truck and has a straight 6 cylinder engine no A/C, new paint job and rebuilt engine. Decisions, decisions, which one because they are both priced the same. I have no pictures will post them later.

id get the 72 lwb 6 cyl sure is fun. personal opinion. im not a fan of letting a truck sit for 20 yrs

Sounds like the 4x4 is in much better shape I'd go with that one. Easier and cheaper to swap a v8 in the 4x4 than to fix all the rust on the other one.....

Is the six a 250 or 292? If it's a 292, heck, I wouldn't even bother dropping in a V8. Plenty of torque in that one.

Hmmmm let's see now, a rusty 2WD or a solid 4x4?
No contest, I would get the 4WD Chevy.

I would go with the 4x4. fixing alot of rust sucks.

What are the plans for the truck you purchase? Keep in mind the BB truck has a lot of value in that engine if all its' original parts are there....

Yes I was leaning toward the 4x4, to have an extra truck, but the originality of the BB is enticing. Although rust does give the 4wd truck the advantage. Thanks guys.

just because the 71 4x4 was recently painted doesn't mean that it was done right it could have 5 gallons of filler on it covering up a big mess.I would get the 71 bb just because you know where you stand with it and there is'nt any gremlins that could pop out later on down the line.

 I usually skip right past "fresh paint" ads. It could have been done right, but who knows. I prefer a nice 4 or 5 year old paint job. If it was going to go to crap, it would have done so by now.
