How much was your paint

You know I look at the pics you guys post of your trucks, and most have new paint jobs on them, flames and things, most if not all look sweet and next year I am going to be going in for some, But coming over from England around 2 years back, means I have little idear just how much I should be looking to spend.
So how about posting the pic of your truck, and the price or a ball park figger of how much you payied

My paint came with the truck when i bought it new

But seriously you can spend any where from 1000 bux to over10.000 it all depends on what your looking for as far as quality and the pattern or lay out or graphic's how many color's are used and so on.

I can tell you this much your not gonna get alot of paint job for a 1000 bux.

A run of the mill decent paint job will be around 3 to 5000$

Oh I just took a look at your site, Wow nice truck, and it gave me some idears on what to do to mine, But I never thought black for my truck, but now after looking at yours thats the way I am going too, Top website and great truck, like I said in your book, "If my truck turns out to look half as good as yours ill be happy.

Probably not. Your first concern should be how much body work do you need. Don't spend a dime on paint until you know the body is straight. Remember, if the body looks like a bag of marbles and you paint it, it will look like a "painted" bag of marbles.

I know someone will say they got one cheaper, but these days with the cost of materials being so expensive, 3000.00 is closer to a realistic price for good quality paint and body.
If you need lots of bodywork, and you want a show quality paint job, expect to spend 4000.00. If you want a pro to lay out a set of flames, airbrush some highlites, and pinstripe the edges before the clear is laid down you are probably in the 5000.00 range.

These are ballpark figures, but I can assure you if you want a really good paint job, using premium brand paint I won't be too far off. Keep in mind, that materials alone for a complete paint job could be close to 1000.00, especially if you want red.

I'll bet that our good buddy Dave might even say that I am a little short on those numbers.

Now with all that said, I'm sure you can get an "average" paint job for less. Just be prepared to settle for "average" results...

All I will say is that when the truck was done over 5 years ago...Paint and body work....not much at that was over $12k.

I paid a painter to do mine as a side job, he did the sanding and bodywork at his house and then snuck to his work to use the paint booth at night. He laid down a nice paintjob, but then tried to finish it himself and did it too soon. He messed up the clear and had to reshoot it, etc etc, now I've got a half assed paint job that looks okay from 10 ft away. I paid the guy $1000, that included welding in my steel roll pan and painting the door jambs. Not a bad deal to get me shiny for a while, but I still wish he would have had someone else buff it out. Oh well.

This is a side note but . . . did you know sports cars cannot be painted brown by law? It has something to do with Datson

I had a shop paint my 94 fullsize. I went black and red two tone. There was a liitle body work to be done on the bed but pretty straight otherwise. I paid $2800 and there is not a shaved item one on it.

The pigment to produce red is the most expensive of solid color paints. Red has always been more expensive to buy over other primary colors.

As I said, there will be many examples of cheaper paint jobs. If someone does the job "on the side" more than likely you are not paying for materials, the lucky shop owner is.

No matter what you get quoted, remember "quality" paint is not cheap. If you get a cheap paint job, it will come back to haunt you sooner or later...

I will do all the body work to my truck, I have some welding to do (the normal spots), I have all ways been pretty good with body work, but I just cant paint.
So I am more then likely going to regret asking this....But what about Maco?, I hear some good storys and some bad storys at work about them, and wonder if anyones had them do there truck....I am not after a show truck here, Just somthing thats going to look good.

On a site note, I just got offered a 85 c10 with a long bed, this truck runs and is driven everyday it has a 350 in her with a shift kit
The bodys ok. But should I get it for $800 and strip it for mine?, I have to say $800 is temting, and it has the holley carb on it too...

If you are capable of doing decent body work, you will save a ton of money. The key to doing it properly is getting it done in a decent time frame. One mistake made by backyard body men is to do it slowly, and not seal it up.
If you can't do it all at one time, focus on one panel at a time, and use an epxy primer/sealer to topcoat it when you are done.

Once you get all the panels done, wetsand the entire truck, and put a fresh coat of epoxy primer on. If you prep it properly, and remove EVERYTHING before you take it to them Maaco you can get a pretty decent job. If I were you I would take it somewhere else that uses a better quality paint though...

You can buy your own paint and take it to Macco and have them spray it on. Just make sure you chose the best painter. It might cost you a little more though.

The paint isn't the most expensive part of a paint job, it is the bodywork. My painter said he would spray anything I brought in there for a small "relative" fee (I know him well), but he pretty much doesn't want to do any bodywork. Plus he said he will not guarantee the paint UNLESS he does the bodywork. Something else to think about. He told me when I was ready for the whole thing to be painted to expect a minimum of $3000 for a good paintjob (including bodywork) and expect it to go up from there with quality.

The only problem with that is the painter not being familiar with ther paint. Every brand of paint has different mix ratios that are recommended. Those ratios are just a guidline for best results. Painters become familiar with a brand and how much they should fudge the ratios to get the best results. I wouldn't want my truck to be their test panel...

This is true of most painters. A painter doesn't want to be held accountable for body work falling apart. That is one of the most common reasons a paint job to fail...

4 grand , they took it all apart and stripped it to bare metal ,including jams, base coat clearcoat.

Mine has been stripped to the metal already. The paint is still going to cost more than the truck.
