What gauge sheetmetal?
What gauge sheetmetal is the box on my stepside? I need to get some to practice welding on and to patch a really bad dent (just cut out and replace).
Thanx, Krue

Just guessing, but I think that it is either 16 or 18 gage. It would be good to mic it.
Here are some gage dimensions; 14 .074 16 .059 18 .047 20 .035 22 .029 Jim |

I thought it was 19 gauge. The best thing is to use an old hood or similar from another old Chevy to make patches. Best metal you can get! (and sometimes free too)

I measured the thickness of the bed sides on my stepside using a 1" mic and the sides are .081-.083 thick, (includes paint thickness).
The closest gage is 14, (.074), so this is what I would use for any repairs. Jim |

I use 16 and 18. 18 is easier to work with as far as bends go.
I would use 16 on the flat box sides. It is a lot stronger. EdB |
