I don't know about Texas, but here in Mississippi it all depends on where you go! I know of several places around here that if you can drive it there and there's enough windshield to stick it on will give you an inspection sticker!

You will need a horn, windshield wipers, emergency brakes, all your lights etc. Not too sure under the hood. I dont think a brake booster is required cause several of our trucks didnt even have one to start with. You will also need proof of insurance(liability).
A lot of places might look the other way when it comes to air breathers. In my opinion, they should all allow our aftermarket parts. Hope this helps. I got my info from a brother in law who did inspections.

I got my '72 inspected in May and all you need is (are) the saftey stuff working, lights, blinkers, stoplights, horn, and no exaust leaks etc... I THINK you have to have exaust that exits well behind cab too but I'm not 100% about that. They didn't even pop my hood. The guy inspecting the truck owns a '72 as it turns out.
I asked if I would have any problems getting inspected if I put headders on in the future and he said only if they leaked.
I was worried about the inspection beforehand as well but it took all of 10 minutes. If you are in 1960 area and want your truck inspected by "a 67-72 owner", I took my truck to the Mr. Sticker on 1960 E.(between Hardy toll and Aldine Westfield), the older guy(45-ish), is the one that owns the '72 .
Good luck
Mike

I lived in Houston 4 yrs. ago. The only way to get my hot rods passed was thru some "good ol' boys" type mechanic shop. I had open elements and blowers, aftermarket steering wheels, etc. Find where the hot rod guys go for inspection. Regular type gas stations totally suck. Its all politics. Revenue, and pleasing the tree-huggers. I called the state EPA guy when a gas staion refused to inspect my '69 Nova. He's a government payroll ass who did'nt care. I'm not demeaning government but you gotta go around the bad laws sometimes and these emissions tests are bad laws. My '83 Bonneville had the computer unplugged and the cat hollowed out. It passed.

Thats what I love about this town I live in, in Louisiana. Only thing they checked when I went was blinkers headlights and brakelights. There are about 3 inspection stations here that will just slap a sticker on if the essentials work.

i thought as long as you and the inspector were both drinking beer and eating crawfish that anything would pass in Louisiana...

It was MY understanding that and emmisions test was for vehicles less than (<) 24 yrs old. A guy I work with who owns a 76 Chev said that the safety stuff, and exhaust were all that was needed. There was NO emmisions check.

I have to get my 76 truck inspected this week, so I'll let you know what I find out.

When i was in Tx I would just go to the junk yard and peel one off.
Not that I am recomending for anyone to do this!

When I first got the old blue Longhorn on the road, i had to get an inspection before I could put Tx tags on it. The parking brake failed and the guy told me all it needs top do is hold the truck ad idle.
That was an easy fix, I just turned the idle down so low that it was hardly even running in gear.
They guy laughed as he filled out the papers.

I got one of my trucks inspected the other day,
he checked the lights, I had to ask (remind) him if
he wanted to hear the horn, the perks of living in'the country
probably wont last too many more years...

mine ws inpected the day I bought it by the prev owner..one park lamp didnt work and the horn does not work and I am not sure if the emer. brake works. I am afraid to try it cuz it might stick on..but i didnt get the inspection paperwork with it and I will have to get it inspected again when I go to the courthouse, But I am in a country setting about 2 hours away from Dallas. On my 95 stratus the whole dash does not work and it passed. It has to be location.
