Stuck Axle Bolts 14B FF /Locker Questions?
Hey All , well I finally finished my 3/4t 10 bolt rebuild now im starting the 14bolt, right off the bat, four of the axle shaft bolts wont let up.. One side came apart just fine, not a whole lot of force needed but the other side is being a bugger. I soaked them all in penetrant but to no avail. And I wasn't sure how I would go about heating them up if that would even work.
Other question I had: I'm in Southern Ontario right beside Port Huron michigan, where abouts would i be able to get a Detroit Locker? From my research, Ive gathered that for the 10.5" ring gears the locker just replaces the inside of the carrier. I looked on jegs, but they only had the one for 4.56 and up (mine is 4.11) I wasnt sure if its something that can be ordered through oreilly's or not? Or what other units work for the 14ff's? My truck isn't a serious offroader but it does get to play once in while here's the finished 10 bolt and the 14 |

Re: Stuck Axle Bolts 14B FF /Locker Questions?
Hey, I haven't dug into my 14 bolt FF yet except an oil change. There is alot of info on the net about them. Here is the one I've used. http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/14b_bible/ I would think you could heat those up, hit them with a chizel, vise grips......anything to get them off. Soak them with Kroil oil if you can find any. It's the best. Sorry I couldn't help more. Good luck! Front axel looks fantastic!!!!!!!!!

The detroit locker fits either series carrier, just make sure you have the "open" carrier. It has 3 cross pins as opposed to the "limited slip" or "gov-lock" which has 4 cross pins or windows as they are sometimes referred to when viewed from the rear with the inspection cover off.

Another site that might help with your rebuild is www.diy4x.com, he is a straight shooter that has helped me with some question when I rebuilt the Dana 70HD in my truck.

oops
That is what I get for typing faster than I can think. You are correct, the detroit has 4 pins.
