Is the steering shaft that connects the column to the steering gear box the same for all 67-72? Is the new one in LMC any good? The one on my 1968 rattles every time I hit a bump. I was in the junk yard last week and I noticed the column on a 1970 had a different looking steering shaft from the one on my 1968. If that is the case is the 1968, 1970, or LMC shaft more reliable? Thanks!

I'm thinking there was a telescoping and a non-telescoping shaft. Don't know what year it changed though.

67-68 had a non-telescoping solid shaft in the column. In 1969 the shaft was made in two pieces with the lower piece set up to collapse in the event of a frontal crash. The shafts are the same 69-72. The 69-72 columns and shafts will interchange with the 67-68 setups.

My LMC catalog does not show a steering coupling shaft for sale???
The Truck Shop catalog shows a 3/4" and a 13/16" one, both labeled 67-72 for $109. Those dimensions are for the splined shaft that comes out of the column and goes into the coupling clamp.

Not sure if you solved your problems, but i just rebuilt a good steering column from three donor columns. So i have alot of spare "3 on the tree" steering column parts that need a good home.

If anyone needs them send me a PM.
