Where did it break? Inside the cabin? Is why a lot of guys use vice grips to open their hood instead, handle broke apart from the cable.
Worst case you can go up underneath and find the cable on the wheelhouse, strip the insulation and pull the cable.

He means cut the cable sleeve, but if the cables broken cutting the sleeve doesn't mean crap you already need a new one

Re: ah snap my hood latch cable broke....what now
I had to do this as well. Mine broke somewhere in the middle. I was able to pry the hood up enough to get to the cable, cut it, and then used vice grips to pull the cable. I reused the sleeve when I replaced the cable. It worked find and really couldn't tell where I had cut it unless you were really looking for it.

Undo the inner wheel well and try cutting the cable in the engine compartment. I accidentially closed the hood without the cable attached when I was painting the truck so I had to burn out the bolts with a torch. Major pain in the ass.

Sounds like the latch is jammed.

Try pulling on the latch cable with vice grips while someone pushes and pulls on the hood.
Hoods are cheap enough around here I'd take a panel cutter and cut a hole in the hood before I'd go torching bolts on the latch.

I had the final paint on the hood at the time and the other hood I have is full of bondo.

Re: ah snap my hood latch cable broke....what now
Had this happen on a 95 Caprice where the cable came off of the hood latch and no amount of tugging that cable was going to work since it wasn't connected anymore to the latch.
Plan B: One very long screwdriver and working from underneath between the grill and the radiator found the latch and a hole to slip the screwdriver into that released the primary latch. Just a thought to try. Was a pain but beat tearing something up. If you can find an exploded picture of the assembly it would help. Here is one from LMC for what it is worth. http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cc/full.aspx?Page=179 Maybe someone has a body & chassis book with a better one. Good Luck, Mark

Re: ah snap my hood latch cable broke....what now
gotta love having a grill hood latch!! don't have to worry about breaking a cable!! is there any access behind the grill itself? try pulling the grill and see it you can trip the release mechanism from there.
