Drop in powertrain - complete 383 stroker w/turbo 350

*edited 8/18/10 - Motor has been sold. Transmission still available though at $250 obo

I've got a complete 383 stroker with 2.02/1.60 iron heads and a turbo350 to go behind it. By the complete turn key package for $1200.
Both are in great shape. More info here:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/c...p?product=4568

I should mention it will need a little tho...the motor would need new oil and filter, header gaskets, fuel pump to carb line, and optional...a taller 4" air filter (what it used to have). The trans needs a TV cable (it got broken somehow) and the trans mount bracket. Otherwise its all good to go!

Would you be willing to sell just the motor? If yes, how much?

Re: Drop in powertrain - complete 383 stroker w/turbo 350

sorry....no trips west planned...at least not for quite a while.

Here's the text from the add...giving more info and pricing
:
Quote:
The 383 is a professionally built and balanced "old school" 383, using a .030 over 3970010 high performance block and a 400 sbc crank (and rods I think, either way they're stock rods) with TRW hyp. flat top pistons. It was built for torque with a hydraulic Melling MTC-1 cam and true roller timing set. Its also got a Melling Hi Perf. oil pump. Specs for the cam are (for I/E) 278/288 (or 204/214@.050) with .420/.443 lift with a 112 (107/117) C/L. Its got a small lope to it, unless you hook the dizzy up to an intake vacuum port instead of a timed port on the carb (it advances the timing, cleaning up the idle), then it idles like stock. The heads are iron 75cc (milled some tho) sbc heads with 2.02/1.60 stainless steel valves and hardened seats installed.

Back to the "complete part":
383 stroker long block as detailed above
Proform "Chevrolet BowTie" aluminum valve covers
Holley Street Dominator intake
Holley 650 double pumper carb
March "custom series" silver powder coated underdrive perf. pullies w/aluminum brakets
Proform aluminum high volume water pump
400 SBC harmonic balancer
externally balanced flexplate
GM HEI w/Accel cap/rotor/wires
Accel shorty plugs
stock oil pan
stock starter
stock p.s. pump
stock 93 amp internal reg. alt.
stock hi perf. fuel pump
chrome 14" air filter - (needs a 4" filter to look better)

Asking $1200 for everything. If you wanted just the motor, its $1050 or the TH350 trans w/converter is $250. Buy them both and save $100. They are also on those nice little 4 wheel storage cradles which I will throw ($80 value) in.

I've had the motor for a couple years (bought it from a friend when he upgraded) and although it was built in the late 90's, it only has maybe 10k miles on it total. It was built for a weekend toy 70's Camaro before I got it. It does not smoke on startup or while running. It uses a quart of oil every 2000mi. or so. It starts and runs great and makes great power. In my short/step...it'll fry the tires in 1st from a slow roll (not just from a stop) and into 2nd for a couple of seconds before finally grabbing. Trans also chirps or breaks tires loose into 2nd depending on how hard you're on it.

For everything there...I think its a fair price and good deal. I was planning to keep the 383 and the trans for my next project...but I'm out of funds for my LSx build/chassis drop, so they got to go.

How long can you store it (motor and tranny)?

Re: Drop in powertrain - complete 383 stroker w/turbo 350

I bought the storage dollies from Northern tool (or Harbor Freight) I think.

I suppose I could store them for a while, what did you have in mind? I had planned on keeping them for my next project anyway...and since they roll around...it makes it easier to deal with.

I should also clarify...since the motor was removed and then "mocked back up" on the cart...it needs a few things. Like the header gaskets, carb to fuel pump line, and the TV cable cracked and now leaks. I think thats it other then I need to find the carb studs for the intake. Dizzy was restabbed from memory of where it was but will need to be verified. Both are still full of fluids since I thought this would be a better way to store. Engine oil will be drained and refilled tho I don't have a new oil filter, which should also be changed.

Just an fyi...I'm offering these items here only right now, as I thought it would be nice to go to a site member/fellow enthusiast. If no activity before long, I'll go ahead and list it on CL.

Re: Drop in powertrain - complete 383 stroker w/turbo 350

Got a taller 3" air filter (out of a new Proform aluminum housing) to go with the 383 stroker to replace that tiny 2" filter it had, and I got everything I needed to change the oil and the oil filter in it..so if nobody buys it and I wind up storing it for my next project...its ready.

Re: Drop in powertrain - complete 383 stroker w/turbo 350

It came out of my truck and was being saved for my next project. Unfortunately I've had unexpected expenses and need to sell it (like the motor) to finish my current project. It comes with the converter and is still full of fluids.

I should add that I don't know its mileage. When I bought the truck the PO said it was recently rebuilt. I pulled it and put it in this truck and put maybe 3k-4k miles on it. How many it really has I don't know. It worked well enough for me that I planned to keep it....
