Engine and 4 speed tranny combo

Just wondering what engines you guys are running infront of your 4speeds ? I have a 4.3L v6 infront of mine, just curious how rare (or not) this combo is ?

6.2 diesel linked to a SM465 with 4.10 gears turns 235/85-16 wheels that moves 3.1Tons of metal down the road
i prefer stick shift with the 6.2 but if was a 5.7 or bigblock i would thrown the 4 speed away long time ago for a Auto

Re: Engine and 4 speed tranny combo

In my V20 I've got a 383 (used to be a 350) in front of my SM465, my K30 has a 6.2 in front of an SM465. I once had a K10 with a 305 and an SM465. My dad ordered an '86 K10 from the dealer with the 4.3 V6 and the three speed with OD.

Out of sheer curiousity just how did you trash a SM465?

Everything I've seen or read suggests they are bullet-proof. Be interested to know how to avoid the trick to "trashing one".

Granted experience has taught me to know they weigh a lot!

Re: Engine and 4 speed tranny combo

I ruined mine by running it out of gear oil. I had no idea it was low on gear oil because of a stupid fixed engine fan that was so obnoxiously loud I couldn't hear the trans whining. After i changed out the fan i could hear it wining finally, by then it had fresh gear oil and it was to late. Its in really bad shape now but it never grenaded and left me stranded, im still driving it around with a shot input shaft bearing.

Keith Seymour has a 4.3 in front of his A-833. I'm going to swap an A-833 in place of my 3-speed stick in onw of my toys.

No he only kept it for a couple of years before selling it. I'd love to find one like it. What model transmission is that anyway?
