location of the shifter arm from tranny?
put on a van tilt column, and can't seem to remember which way the shifter arm goes back on the "tab",of the steering column.to be more specific.....on an automatic tranny column shifted, the arm extends to the shifter tab to the back side of the tab or in front of the tab.back.... meaning the firewall side,front..... meaning the radiator side.i'm getting a little bindage when i go from one shft location to another and am thinking that the binding may be happening at this spot....it is at a little bit of an odd angle if you remember right.i was thinking also of putting a small crescent wrench on the tab (on the thin diameter)and twisting the tab to join at a better angle w/ the shifter linkage arm.any one know what the he!! i'm babbling about,or done this to solve this prob.??

I'm positive the rod is on the radiator side of the tab. I know this because I've removed many of them and always cussed when the nut or a washer dropped out of my grasp oand bounced off an a-arm to god knows where. If the nut was on the radaitor side, I'd been less likely to drop so many

Jeff is correct on the location as I have dropped everything once you take the nut off.
The "tab" on the tilt columns is square to the column, some minor adjustments could be done but since it swings in an arc, I would do so carefully as you might introduce more binding. Jim |

yeah, i was thinking of that too.i think if i put the linkage to the correct side of the shifter tab(towards the rad.) it might help the binding problem. thanks for the replies guys!
