My New Truck...Rear Main Seal?
So, about two months ago, I picked up a 1972 c10 Cheyenne 350 V8 5.7 TH350. This is my first truck and I am learning a lot.
Here's the thing, the bottom back of the engine and the tranny pan, has a good amount of black wet oil on it. I find about a few drips a day hit the ground. What am I looking at to fix it? Last edited by nerve; 09-29-2010 at 05:49 PM. |

Re: My New Truck...Rear Main Seal?
It MIGHT not be the rear main...it could also be the rear of the intake manifold. Especially if you have a poorly functioning PCV system. Do some poking around to be sure of where the oil is coming from.

Re: My New Truck...Rear Main Seal?
Ummm, isn't that the front of the motor? If so, that oil is most likely coming from the timing cover seal. Unless it is a HUGE amount of oil, I wouldn't worru too much about it on a driver. It's almost as if Chevys were intended to seep oil there.

Re: My New Truck...Rear Main Seal?
Looks like valve cover gaskets are leaking, alot. That would be he first thing to get sealed up. Clean that engine up real well and it will be easier to find the leaks.
