Vintage Air vs. Old Air

I have sen alot of people using Vintage Air systems in their trucks, anyone tried Old Air Products out of Ft. Worth? Not looking for price comparsions more of fit and performance.....

I have smoothed my firewall and I want to figure out how mounting is on these systems before I go to paint. I dont want to have to weld or drill on my firewall after paint...

I have Old air in my 65 and my dad has it in his 64 CC, blows cold and is very reliable. No complaints here, also thye are like 10 minutes from my house. That doesnt hurt either.

I have used one of each. Both are wonderful. Both blow very cold. One is not better than the other in my opinion.

I used the electric units for both. i think in the end the price is about equal on them also.

I always use Vintage but I would try Old Air, heard good things about them too

i just put a vintage air kit in my truck. it works great and blows cold. scotts hotrods is excellent to deal with. customer service was second to none.

I bought a couple of 6 cyl brackets from Old Air and it was very good. Got my under dash unit from Nostalgic Air and it was good. Always heard good about Vintage Air too.

I got screwed six ways from Sunday by Hot Rod Air. I'll save the story, but this is a small and lame operation with people who will lie to your face, and three under dash units returned (replacement bought from Nostalgic), a bracket kit completely useless and returned (Replacement bought from Old Air), and a compressor locked up and took them over one year to provide me a warranty exchange probably because they realized I was never going to give up.

Also at fORT WORTH we will be there we have a 30x80 foot booth come on buy
our booth and check our products out we will have some great prices.

For 50% off that is a huge discount they must not have many dealers selling there stuff.
That would upset many.Vintage air will never do that at any show they go to.There product is very easy to sell and they have the best kit on the market period.

Seems you can't go wrong with either. Me personally, I have Vintage Air in my Chevelle. I think hell has frozen over when I run it. LOL!! Although, my truck is on hold, I plan on sticking with Vintage Air and using it since that's what I'm accustomed to.

I have decided Im going with Old Air's underdash system. I have a smoothed firewall and smoothed center section in my dash and really dont want to drill or cut out anything in the dash. I already have a brand new drier, condenser and compressor, so I just gotta add the unit a bulk head connector and a hose kit. Maybe later I will go with a new full system, but there is so many more things I want for this truck ever little bit saved at this point will truely help.

I installed a V/A system in my 69 C-10 back in 1998. I bought the kit for a non factory AC truck, so it used the existing heater controls to control the VA unit. One of the levers was unused by the V/A kit, so it just rattled around. I also had a couple more issues, so sent an e-mail to V/A and, surprisingly, got a call from the owner Jack Chisenhall.

Since I had to go visit San Antonio on business anyway, I drove my truck down the following week. Jack met me at their main facility, gave me a tour, and then I followed him over to their R&D shop. They ended up installing a new fan clutch and recharging the system (0.2 lbs more than the instructions called for). They also gave me a factory AC control panel and a manual water valve -- all parts and labor at NO CHARGE.

I still have some issues with the way the controls work, but the AC blew cold air for the next 7-8 years. My unit has the old tube & fin style condenser, which doesn't work all that great with R134, so one of these days I'll get one of their newer Superflow condensers and hard lines. Currently the system works well up to around 90-95 outdoor temperature, but above that it's just barely adequate. I also spent the time to install factory AC supply vents, instead of using the underdash parts. What a job it was cutting those holes in the dash!

My 55 sedan also has a VA unit made back in 1999. I retrofitted it with the newer condenser and it works pretty well up to 100 degrees outside temp. I've called VA tech support a few times over the years and have found them to be very helpful.

If I were you, I'd make on-site visits to both companies. Old Air used to be on the south side of Ft. Worth, so they're probably only 3 hours from the Austin area.
