My john deer blitz black truck again...

I posted my truck up a while back but I left few things out and i got some better picturs taken so here goes. New john deere blitz black paint job and body work, new polyvinyl foor with heath shield and insulation, FAILED vinlyn headlinder wrap, bucket seats, putting in repainted dash and brushed aluminum pieces now.

I have 2002 ford escape seats installed on the truck. I had to cut only one bracket off of the seat move it up about 2" and bolt it right back to the place where I removed it from. Pictures will help explain it better....

This is the piece I cut off and it stays bolted to the floor when I put the seats back in I just bolt the cut off part back to where it came from only 2" up where the self made hole is. get it?

this is as clean as I could get my floor but it wasn't too bad

Here are the products I used to ensure the insulation stayes in place. Over kill maybe a little but I was just trying some new stuff out. Oh and I used duct insulation for a heat sheild. Seemed to be the same stuff everyone else uses only a little thinner and a lot cheaper. Applies the same though so I went ahead and used it.

I attempted to rewrap my headliner with vinyl but it didn't turn out so good. I wripped off all of the old glue and cloth and used some spray adhesive I got from oriellys I think. The spray adhesive SUCKS do not buy it!!! IT DID NOT WORK! the vinyle is coming loose around the 'humps' on the headliner. All in all after I got done my headliner looked really lump because the fiber board wasn't smooth enough to cover without showing through. Worth a shot before buying one of those new highliners which is my next buy...

done... doesn't look so good up close....

Hey it's a learning curve.... I'm trying new stuff on a budget... Someone has to be the first... I think I'm doing ok... Hope you enjoyed it...

Small block 400 buy the way...

WOW! You are making lots of progress. Ok, maybe the headliner was a step backwards, but you learned a lesson anyway.

A word of caution on the Gorilla Glue. If you haven't already found it, it foams up as it cures. Keep that in mind if you use it in an area that it might show. It tends to "grow" as it cures.

Re: My john deer blitz black truck again...

Hey guys thanks for all the support. I had the paint professionally done for $2000. Hod rods are a big lesson to learn but in my opinion there is nothing worse than bad body work. The paint was only $35 per gallon. 1 gallon covered the whole truck.

This is just a starter color for now. I hate it when guys run around with chalky primer when for $35 you could have some hardy ass tractor paint. Think of all the stuff tractors go through. You know this stuff has to be pretty tough.

The color I am lookin for is a dark chocolate golden color. See in the second picture of the truck how the sunlight hits the paint and makes it look like a golden brown I want that effect. Anyone know of a solution? Dark brown paint that is gold lookin in the sun?

Thanks again guys! Building dreams off of dreams!

Re: My john deer blitz black truck again...

I dig it. Good job.
I respect that kind attitude alot more than guys who just throw money at something. And if I came up to your truck next to a pristine 69 Camaro parked in a parking lot. I would glance over the camaro, but study your truck. Or for that matter, I would rather see a cool little corvair hotrod, than another ProStreet Chevelle. I guess I just like things that are cool and on a budget.
Good idea on the paint.
How's the insulation work as a sound deadner? Is it pretty quiet in the cab?

My favorite thing has to be the chain pull straps.

Looks awesome, keep it up. Do you have any pictures of the seats finished and installed? I love my bench, but have been considering other options.

Re: My john deer blitz black truck again...

Haha the pull straps are not a permanent addition I hope but they work... haha good eye I didn't even notice I had them inthe picture.

I'm not even sure what kind of wheels I have. I know I am running a 295/50 15. I have drop spindles in the ront and hangers/shackles in the back with one leaf cut out. All this was done to the chassis before I baught it. Oh yeah did I mention this truck only costed me $500 with no engine or trani. Not bad considering the body was pretty straight, NO RUST (been in a covered barn for a while) and it was already dropped..

I will have pictures of the interior and some more side shots as soon as I get back home. Thanks again guys.

I would do chocolate brown, with very small, but heavy gold flake. I think I saw something like that when I was looking through the paint book for 82 factory colors.

Do you plan on leaving the bumper strips? They almost look right with the grill treatment...almost. Thats probably the only thing I would do differently.

Re: My john deer blitz black truck again...

Looks Great! I was looking for a truck that was painted in the BB. I used the same stuff under my carpet. I used 3m adhesive and it went in fantastic. A HUGE difference in heat and sound. Before you had to shout across the cab. Now u can talk pretty much normal, and you can even listen to music.........Oh wait I forgot the gang bangers in my neighborhood stole it while I was on a trip!!!

Anyway looks excellent!! I too like things done on a budget and finding new ways for old problems. There is just more heart and soul in your truck when u do it your way.
