Re: sealant/tape
Teflon tape is teflon tape, any auto parts store or hardware store carrys it. liquid thread sealer? depends on the application, Permatex has some.

Re: sealant/tape
teflon tape is not a sealant ... it is a lubricant.
it allows the threads to tightened more in order to make more uniform contact between the thread faces which in turn makes the seal. |

Re: sealant/tape
Loc-tite makes a thread sealant. It's in a red bottle. Just don't use the thread locker.

Re: sealant/tape
they actually have diffrent grades of telfon tape. i like teflon tape because it can be used in a wet application. i know air lines are not hydraulic lines but loctite would never work in a wet application. i have used teflon tape with great success and will never use anything else. i have heard that the loctite actually dries hard, does vibration on the road cause issue with this?

Re: sealant/tape
loctite 545 works in wet (hydraulic) applications. very well, actually.
loctite hydraulic/pneumatic thread sealant (purple-545) is not the same chemical compound as loctite thread locker (red-271, green-290 or blue-424). justa fyi. Last edited by Shane; 10-06-2010 at 09:35 PM. |

Re: sealant/tape
correct you are sir, i left out the important part(dam). in the field is the condition i am talking about. it has a cure time where tape does not. sorry i forgot to state that. i have had nothing but bad luck with anaerobic sealants. maybe not enough patience.
