Drop question

I've cut the front coil springs, one complete coil, giving me a 2 in drop in the front. Planned on going with the 2 in drop spindle. Now on the rear, I have moved the leaf spring hangers themselves up to the last two bolt holes, giving me a three in drop. What is a good method to get another 2 inches in the rear?

how about the shackles > if you just did the hangers, Imsurprised you got 3 in. Idid shackles & hangers for approx. 4 in drop > wasnt satisfied , so I had the leaf springs dearcked. another 1.5-2 in or so. Hope this helps . there are lots of others on this forum that know a lot more than me , so maybe they will chime in also .

that's what I'm going to do to mine...shackles

and slugish, he took the hanger bracket loose from the frame and moved it up on the frame...he didn't install new hangers...

thats what I did, one coil and spindles on the front, then shackels hangers, pulled all but 4 leafs, and dearched them, If I were to do it over again, I'd done a rear flip.

When your doing the rear make sure to keep your pinion angle proper

Thinking I may go with some lowering springs in the front. And if I have to, I'll move the hangers back, or maybe even get some different leaf springs. I was just looking at some for about $140.

This all depends on what the new tires look like. Going with the 275/60r15 all the way around.

What are you guy's thoughts on just getting a flip kit for the rear, flipping the axle only? Considering moving the hangers up got me about 3 inches. I can't use shackles to get any lower. Any thoughts on that?

I would have started with a flip kit from the beginning, that gives you a great amount of drop. What are you trying to get ur truck lowered too?

Well, in the beginning the budget didn't allow for that. I'm trying to get another 2 inches, in the rear. Would make it a 3/5 drop

The rear flip kits are a standard of 3-5 inchs i believe. I maybe wrong, but I would go ahead and do a flip anyways.

I was thinking flip kits only come in 5 inch.( I maybe wrong) Like I said, I can't use shackles cause I've relocated my hangers in the rear. Moved them up to the last bolt holes. So there's no room for shackles. So you think just flipping the axle will give me the other 2 inches?

its going to give you your initial drop from relocating your hangers ( 3inch drop that you mentioned) plus 5 inchs. So sounds like a total of 8 inchs?? Gonna be low low lol. What size wheels you going to put on it?

I dont see why you cant modify them, take them to a machine shop and have them raise the radius where the axle tube bracket sits. Get it cut an inch or two higher then original. If im thinking right, the shorter the bracket, the less of a drop? SInce the axle is flipped im pretty sure that's how it would work.

Moving the hangers back isn't that hard. The only problem is getting to the bolts on the drivers side in the front. Gas tank is in the way. Should've thought about this when I had the bed off. I guess we live and learn, huh? I personally think it need to go down a couple more inches. My brother and nephew are satisfied with it. Just seeing what options I have. Thanks for all your input.

Its hard to tell because I can tell the truck really isnt on that level of ground. Honestly, I think it looks fine the way it is. It might always look lower in the front due to the wheel well opening being taller. I say leave it as is and get the new tires.

It looks like its missing something, like a bushing or something.. I think the trucks stance looks fine honestly. Did you remove your overload spring from the spring pack? If not you could get a little bit more of a drop, about 1/2". And if your truck is the heavy duty you can remove the smaller spring right ontop of the overload..

I agree that the truck looks good as is. Lowering is a pain in the neck, and the benny of keeping your truck where its at is... NO new wheels and tires lol... (for now )

thanks guys what it was is when we moved the rear hangers, we had to cut a slot in the bed where the rails bolt down, and we didn't get it back in the slot. And gotta have new tires. Those are worn out.lol
