Weight of 454 going to drop the truck even more?

Hey guys,

Was wondering how much the front of my truck is going to drop If I was to drop my new motor in with the suspension I have now. Im worried that the new added weight (almost 350lbs more) Is going to drop the truck even more then what it is now, which would render the truck undriveable. Should I wait to drop the new motor in untill I have the new suspension?

Matt

Have a couple of your buddies stand on it that weight a total of 350 lbs. See how it looks. Turn the steering wheel. Maybe even drive up and down the driveway or something.

I didn't think a big block weighed that much more. I thought it was less than 125#?

I looked up the weights of the 305 and the 454 and the difference was like 350 something. The 305 came in at like 600ish and the 454 was like 950 or something..

305 to 400 won't add a bit, might even drop a pound or two.

It's not, you're fine. Might drop a little but you're going to run the Porterbuilt stuff. Your ride height will be adjustable anyway!

Re: Weight of 454 going to drop the truck even more?

Mine dropped about an 1" to 1.5". It had a 305 also has some rake that transfers a little more weight to the front.

actaully, i think im not going to run the porterbuilt stuff. I saw scottshotrods IFS set up, they have everything I want. Rack and pinion, narrowed track, centered wheels, ect ect. But with coil overs, its what i really want.

Re: Weight of 454 going to drop the truck even more?

Well, with coil overs it'll still be adjustable so you can dial it in perfect. Unless your springs are junk, you should be fine to run it like that for a while. Like I said, I swapped my small block for a big block in a different truck and it didnt drop but almost 1/2 inch.
