Question re: alternator swap
Hi,
Will I have a problem with my ammeter if I switch from an external to an internally regulated alternator? I can't imagine why, but I'm trying to explain a problem I had in the dash earlier. I don't know if it was a cause or a symptom, but one of the traces on the instrument circuit board going to the ammeter was melted. Brian |

No, you won't have a problem. I did the swap on mine and it works good. I didn't want that many amps comming into my cab with out being protected, so when you go to run the wire to the amp gage put a inline fuse in place, so if it shorts out it will blow the fuse.

There should be 2 fuses protecting the guage as is out of the factory.

I recently read that if you go with a higher output alternator, over 60 amps, you will damage the stock ammeter gauge and probably burn the gauge wires. I'm gonna change mine to a voltmeter.
