Front drums stuck, need help

I just hit myself in the eye with my hammer trying to get the front drum off. So I give up and come here for help
How does the front drum come off of my 69 GMC C15?

I turned the adjuster spindle all the way in. I knocked the wheel studs into the drum, thinking they might have been holding it. There are 3 studs sticking out of the drum that look like the tips have been mashed in. I don't know if those have to come out or what is the deal.

You can try to remove the drum with the hub, then seperate them on the bench. It sometimes makes it easier.

I was not sure if I should just break out the grinder and cut those off, or if I should take off the center nut and remove the whole thing...

personally, I'd just pull the hub at the spindle. You'll need a new grease seal on each one... and some new wheel studs from the sounds of it.

Re: Front drums stuck, need help

If you just working on the brakes, remove the dust cap, cotter pin, hub nut and outer bearing to get the drum off, it all comes off as one unit. If you plan on replacing the drum then you have to grind the rivits off. Hope this helps. BTW, I too almost put my eye out on two seperate occasions trying to take brake springs off with a screwdriver ...I finally bought the right tools ...and bandaids!

Re: Front drums stuck, need help

just remove the hub like they said// those riveted on brake drums are the originals from the factory try to keep them like that if at all possible as those drums are far superior to available replacements

One side is done, I ground off the rivets and hammered them through. It seems like it would be a bit easier to remove the spindle with the drum, since I am not replacing the drums right now.
Thanks for all the help guys!

Re: Front drums stuck, need help

Some PB Blaster & a little heat goes a long way. Heat the drum evenly around the center. Often times it will pop right off.
