ignition switch...bare minimum needed to operate?

Which wires are the bare minimum needed at the ignition switch to start the truck and turn it off? Is it just the red and purple wires, or more?

and, what wouldn't be energized in "on" if I leave the other wires out?

Thanks

Re: ignition switch...bare minimum needed to operate?

In jyards I look at the color of the wires that lead to the starter solenoid and ignition coil and match them to the color wires on the ignition switch plug. Then you will need to break a paper clip in two and jump the main hot (red heavy gauge wire) to the coil wire and then take the other half and put one end in same hot wire and "tap" the other end into the yellow or purple solenoid wire.... You also may have to runa ground jumper from the switch plug to ground as well... its been a while, but it has never failed me yet....

Re: ignition switch...bare minimum needed to operate?

Thanks for the response Mike, but I am still confused

I went to O'Reilly's and bought a cheapo ignition switch w/ keys.

It has 4 terminals:

Batt
Ignition
Acc
Starter

I assume that the wires should go like this:

Batt = Red
Ign = Pink
Starter = Purple
Acc = ???

Does this sound right?? There are way more wires than just 4 going to the factory switch...

If you have a brown, connect that to ACC.

Re: ignition switch...bare minimum needed to operate?

Just grab the switch from your other truck, plug it in and go...

Re: ignition switch...bare minimum needed to operate?

I would pull it from my other truck, but it works well and I don't want to funk with it, plus the pigtail on the 'new' truck is melted kinda bad so I am sure something else is wrong too.
