Help replacing window regulator
I am trying to replace the passenger window regulator in my 71. The service manual says: Wind widow all the way up; remove 4 screws; Push regulator out of circular opening; slide assembly to the notches in the carrier and out thru the door access hole.
When I try to push it thru the hole it is hitting the window track that is right behind it so I can't get the shaft to clear the hole. Am I missing something?

Re: Help replacing window regulator
You can unbolt the back channel from the door and it will give you more play for the regulator be careful about the glass though.

Re: Help replacing window regulator
Not sure how the book is saying to do it. If you get someone to hold the glass to prevent it from falling at the top edge, I just unscrew the mount screws then slide the rollers out of the track work it out the hole. Reinstalling it is slightly more difficult and it's easier for me to put the rollers into the track have someone hold the window to keep from dropping it, slide the regulator over and align the mount screws by cranking the regulator so the window is about half way up or so it seems easier for me. Hope I helped you and not confused you.

Re: Help replacing window regulator
Maybe it's the part about rolling the window all the way up thats got you. Try half way up. but get someone to hold the glass.

Re: Help replacing window regulator
suction cups on a string works great for window work i had made one up when i work for ford dealership and doing flat rate work on window regs. isnt fun.i would put the window up until the roller our out to the farest part of the track if you go to far up then the rollers come back on the track,
i got a feeling im going to be reading your post on battle wounds soon ---j/k

simple wooden shims on both the inside and outside hold the glass up for you too.

Re: Help replacing window regulator
holdoing up the window is not the problem I am having. The issue is when trying to get the regulator out, I cannot get the shaft of the regulator to clear the hole to pull it out because it is hitting the front window track. Am I going to need to remove the wing assembly to get this thing out?

Re: Help replacing window regulator
I thought the vent window had to be taken out first. That is the way I have done it, but I am not positive.

Re: Help replacing window regulator
I went ahead and removed the vent window assembly and was able to get the regulator out. Got the new one in and the door all reassembled. Now back to my original task, installing the old air system.
