Re: Pro Comp Heads

I haven't heard anything about those heads. If i were going to run alum heads, i would helicoil all the spots where the bolts maybe in and out, especially sparkplug holes. Good luck.

Re: Pro Comp Heads

I if remember to I will ask my machinist as he has run these heads in the past with his low 9's camaro 454. I too heard a lot of bad about them and when I asked him, he just shrugged his shoulders and said he's had no problem. I would think you should be able to find info from the website.

Re: Pro Comp Heads

Patriot, ProComp, all those budget suppliers source their heads and other castings from China. It can be a real crap shoot as to quality of both the machine work and the overall casting. Some parts in the past have had issues with core shift.

I have known several people to run these brands of heads with decent results, but they ALL needed to be disassembled, cleaned carefully, and inspected prior to installation. There were often problems with shavings, metal chips and the like stuck up in the ports. Also check the valve guides and test fit your rocker arms to make sure the machining geometry is as it should be. Oh yeah, it won't hurt to lay a straight edge on the deck either.

Re: Pro Comp Heads

I believe pro comp used to Aussie a long time ago....yeah forgot about the Chinese thing. It is your responsibility to check everything before it goes to the motor no matter who made it. I bought a few items from procomp putting my current motor together. After checking them before assembly I ended up selling everything I bought from procomp on ebay for pennies on the dollar. This included but not limited too fuel pump, Rockers, head studs, main studs. etc. It was a learning lesson I should have known. YOu get what you pay for.

Re: Pro Comp Heads

I've heard of there engine bolts breaking, Personally I would spend the extra and get a quality item,
The enjoyment of quality is enjoyed long after the price is forgotten
