Re: what transmission do I have?

When Im driving my truck and I want to shift from 3rd to 4th, I have to wait until the rpm's drop down to at least 3000. If I try and engage 4th gear any sooner, it grinds. Is that a problem in the tranny or the clutch?

Could be either. Here is how to tell which. Have the truck at a standstill with the engine idling in neutral. Push in the clutch, wait about 5 seconds, and shift to reverse. Does it grind going into reverse? If yes, your clutch is not disengaging fully. If no, your 4th gear synchro is going out.
