Whats the trick?

To installing the rods in the hatch? I had to rebuild the latch mechanism on the handle, but can't figure out how to get the rods into the latch. I have some photos saved, so I know I'm putting them in the right place, I just can't see how I can get them into the latch. I tried by putting them in the side latches first then inserting them towards the middle, but can't get my fingers in far enough to insert them in the center. The center latch is bolted down. Should I leave it loose and then do it? Any help would be great. Thanks, Jeff.

Re: Whats the trick?

Update, finally got them in. Easiest way was to leave the center portion loose and insert the left one first with a hair clip then the right one. Had to do a little bending on the rod to get it to sit right, but its working now. Also had to pull the bolts out of the left and right side latches as they were hitting the catches on the top's side. May have to do a little grinding on them to make them clear, but for now I'll just leave them out. Its nice not having the hatch flap around back there.

Now I just have to figure out how to water proof the areas around the door windows. My new carpet is soaked!!
