Question 250 HEI with A/C Question

Anybody upgrade to an electronic ignition and a/c on their 250? I know there's a clearance issue with the internal coils, but I don't know about the ones with external coils. Some pics would be awesome. Thanks!

Re: 250 HEI with A/C Question

This is on a 292. The picture makes it looks like there is more room than there really is. I am just able to get the cap off without moving the compressor. With a 250 you will need the compressor a little higher on the head.

Thanks for the picture! Where did you get the aftermarket a/c bracket? Did it originally come with a/c? I'm curious because I also have an offset air cleaner and don't quite know how that's going to work with the a/c bracket.

Re: 250 HEI with A/C Question

The Sanden 508 is from a VW Golf. The upper section of the bracket, the two curved, slotted pieces and hardware were cut from the Golf bracket. Everything below the flat bar under the compressor is fabricated. There is a thick, flat bar behind the cap that bolts to the second pad between plug #2 and #3. You can see part of a diagonal brace just behind the cap.

Nothing aftermarket. Everything is junkyard.
There are two pusher fans. The '94 Cad fan runs all the time when the AC is on. The '89 Cad fan is controlled by a 208 deg '92 Honda switch mounted on the thermostat housing. The parallel flow condenser is from a '02 Chrysler 300. The underdash evap unit is a digital Electronic Climate Control from a '88 Mark VII Lincoln.
While I was working on the dash, I replaced the ash tray with a cup holder from a Toyoto. Those rice burners have to be good for something.

A switch from a '86 Chevy for left/right fuel tank will someday go in the spot where the cig lighter was. Fixing up those tanks and removing the cab tank is the next project.

I like it! That's what I call being creative. How did you make the cup holder work? That's also something that's on my "to do" list.

Where did you get the automatic climate control box at? Very curious about that...

Re: 250 HEI with A/C Question

Digital Electronic Climate Control from a '88 Mark VII Lincoln. The system is fully electronic. The vent doors are all controlled by stepper motors. No cables or vacuum. The control panel is computerized and is self diagnostic. You can retrieve fault codes in case of a failure.

The cup holder was close to the same size. I welded tabs on the inside to secure it. It isn't the best type of cup holder, but it fit in the available space. It has two "U" shapped arms that drop down when pulled out. It has proven to be reliable and doesn't hold Large cups which is fine with me.

Dang RichardJ, that's a slick set up! I imagine a lot of people spend a lot more $ to accomplish the same thing. Good job!
