Red face first race today

yeah, my friend chris and i raced today.

after work i saw him and we caught up and went from a roll at 30 mph until about 60.

from the start i was pulling on him a LITTLE TINY bit, but then he just blew by me and he stayed a car length or so ahead of me until he had to turn and i let off at around 55-60mph.

oh yeah, he drives a 91 or so s10 blazer with a flowmaster on it.

yeah yeah, i'm working on getting a new engine.

my truck is fairly slow.
It runs good, real good.
But my tranny and possibly rear end screw me.
I pull up to a brand new truck and hear more ticks and pings then my 83. Im pretty happy that my engine runs so smooth and clean.
I just wish I was faster because I LOVE racing.
6-speed manual is what I need!

<----- needs a crotch rocket!

I tried to play with a Mustang 5.0 today, but he was killin me
I think I was suprising him on the long run though. Got up to around 90 between stop lights. I dont think he saw it coming.
For those of you who say no street racing, it was by farm fields (no cross traffic).

Ah yes, the joys of pulling up beside some little mustang or something who is revving their engine with their friend, flooring the 5.7 litre 350 V8 and laughing as both turn their heads wide eyed to hear where that deep roar is coming from :P I love these trucks!

I HAD a fast truck! At least it runs again. I plan on making it even faster than it was. I'll let ya'll know HOW fast as soon as its tweaked right and me and my buddy take it to the track with his. He runs a 15.07 with a '82 swb. (With a dead number eight cylinder! How does he do it?!?)

I'd rather hear the truth about a race! I'm sick of the B.S. stories of trucks with stock 305's smoking mustangs or running 13 second 1/4's. Keep it real.

I was not lying. I ran a 19.8 and the S10 ran something like a 21.2, I don't know if the driver was driving wrong, or what, but he did have a better reaction time than I did. I have an SM465 and was actually impressed at my time. The S10 was an auto.

Airmale...your 450 HP should be pushing you to a better time than 14.2! I have timeslips to prove it, but my 355/th350/4.10 got me to a 14.6 in the 1/4 mile...and the engine was stock except the .030 bore, cam, intake, carb, and headers.

I agree with you, 14.0 second ET's with a 305 is hard to believe.

I agree Jeff.....My time-slips are horrible. I was running 275/60/15 Futura(Pepboys)tires that refused to hook up. I need to get a set of MT E.T. streets and see me in the mid 13's! Might go to the track tommorrow night.

AirMale, is the 450 HP at the wheels or the flywheel. Just curious.

I raced an early 80's El camino on the way home from the track that was freaking closed on Friday. Went form about a 60 punch. Saw him kick down and take off, dropped mine into 2nd and walked off from him. Pretty cool, but I had the little one with me so I had to let off. He was all smiles though. I looked over at him and all you could see was teeth.

Nice! I wouldn't mind getting the 500HP 383.

Before my truck was painted and it had the 15inch alum wheels it looked like a regular pick-up. Then I dropped the 383/450hp in and the fun started. The first lesson was given to an unsuspecting lad with a 90's 300zx with noisy stainless cans sticking out the back. We were both a red light with nobody in front of us for at least a 1/4mi. His throttle was reving and I gingerly came off the line cause' this truck don't hook and once rolling, mashed the skinny pedal the right and stunned the poor boy. Can't wait to see some more tears when the 540/650HP gets installed. Obsessed? No question!

Back when my 383 was setup for 320hp, 435lbs/ft of torque it had the #8 cylinder dead also and I never knew it. I also had a sm465 at this time.

My friend had just finished putting a new 350 in his 80 el camino. He used a crane cam with about 206* @.050 duration, performer intake, 1 5/8" headers and dual 2.5" exaust. So we raced
I got behind in the begging due to no traction and that dam tranny, but by 50mph I had caught up and after that it was a dead even race [we stoped at about 75mph]. This was on 7 cylinders remember!

Haha, I would be surprised if my stock 350 mated to a 400turbo automatic could do the 1/4 mile in 20.0 :P
