Tilt column disassembly
Hi all,
I have a 78 K10 automatic with a bad stock steering column. I have a 78 tilt column that I'd like to put in, but I need to remove the tube with the shift arm from the column. The old stocker comes apart easy after removing the 2 screws holding the neutral safety switch but the tilt unit won't. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks, Colby. |

Re: Tilt column disassembly
Colby that requires full disassemble. The shift tube goes in the outer jacket just about first in the assembly process. I am curious as to why you want to remove it? Jay

This was a big help to me when I tightened up the column in my truck.

Re: Tilt column disassembly
Thanks for the info! The newer tilt column was not removed "gently" shall we say from the other vehicle, and the shifter tube is down over the slines of the steering shaft. I cannot get the coupler on it, and the tube is stuck in place. I guess I'll take it apart, and if it won't work maybe I can repair the original column.
