newer 235 hyd. clutch

hey guys has anyone used a later (60'-62') 235 hyd clutch setup on a 55'-59' 235? since the brakes are being updated to disc. thought using a newer hyd. setup for clutch might work making bracket to mount modern cylinder to operate clutch with stock pedals. the stock cylinder bore is 29mm (1 1/8") and it seems most modern ones are 18mm (11/16th") somewhat smaller bore. the ones i checked were later model GM truck and car cylinders that are nice and small. seems like all that would result in using smaller bore cylinder is more pedal effort. throw some feedback my way. thanks.

Re: newer 235 hyd. clutch

Which cylinder are you talking about that is smaller, at the pedal or the slave?

Just to make sure I am understanding you correctly, are you wanting to mount a second MC under the floor and operate it from a more or less stock looking clutch pedal?

If yes, look at a stock brake MC for a 54 or earlier Chevy passenger car. These have an intregral support for the pedal shaft and come in 7/8" and 1" bores. I have never seen one of these actually used on a truck before, but I can't think of any obvious reason why it shouldn't work if you can make a mounting bracket for it. You would need to remove the residual pressure valve for clutch use, but that should be the only mod it would need.

it would be at the pedal since the stock slave setup would be used. the room issue is what attracted me to using a S-10 clutch m/c plus they have remote resevoir that might help in adapting the setup. sure i could simply put a "wanted" ad on craigslist for stock 235 bellhousing but figured i could use up some parts that will go bad after storing them for a million years because i couldn't throw them away, we all know the story. i will look into the 54' car setup also as an option.

Re: newer 235 hyd. clutch

If you use a smaller bore cylinder at the pedal you will have an easier push on the pedal and it will travel further to move the clutch fork the same distance. A larger pedal cylinder will be harder to push but won't need to travel as far.

thanks!i was leaning towards that info as i had bookmarked it in the past but relocating it is another issue. gonna do a compression check on the 235 before pulling it out of the 61' C-10 and putting it down(major rust).
