Free 4-link but buy coilovers or cal-trac and leafs?

Okay, trying to make a decision here. I was going to sell the 4-link that came in the boxes with my truck, and buy some cal-trac bars. I got the 4-link for free OR I would be able to buy the cal-tracs with the money from the sold 4-link (so essentially free also) My question is, is that kind of just going backwards? Should I just go 4-link and spring for coilovers? Im building this on a budget but also want to do it right, once. (its a 1980 2wd rcsb 6.0, will have a flip kit in the rear, daily driver/fun toy during the nice-weather months, will haul a dirtbike or two rarely...if it helps.) So 4-link and pay for coilovers or essentially free cal tracs and leafs? Thanks!

well its gona cost a lot more to have the 4 link professionaly installed, so if your on a budget, get the cal trac's.

The 4 link would get my vote unless your primary concern is track times.

nah, it will rarely see the track, maybe once a year for fun or something but its not a main goal by any means. i want a FUN truck i can take corners and burn the tires off, and daily drive when theres no snow (2wd, 6.0 and 4l80e)

I'm with N2TRUX, It was the last part of you question, "maybe a dirt bike or two". To get a squarebody to ride good, you need a 200 - 220 spring. And that woun't haul much. If you go with a bag/shock - or a shockwave (the new steel body's are pretty reasonable) you can change the effective rate as needed, smooth when empty, or strong enough to haul rocks.

Bags would be cheaper than good coilovers. You can use schrader valves and set your ride with an air hose if you want to keep it real inexpensive.

Re: Free 4-link but buy coilovers or cal-trac and leafs?

Will I still have bad wheel hop with the bags? Sorry, I'm new to this and know nothing about bags. And I'm not too concerned about hauling the dirtbikes, it wouldn't be more than a few times a year if that (could just use my dads truck) I'm more concerned with DD ability (somewhat comfortable) but wanna burn the tires and go when I want too!

No worries bro, it's all good. Just saying coil overs arent cheap, and a set of bags would be much cheaper. Wheel hop shouldn't be a concern if you set it up correctly.

A 9000 series slider bag is about 90 bucks, you can find them cheaper online, just watch the source. Doetsch, KYB, and PRO shocks are good, and will control any hop, they all run about 50 bucks a shock, and are well worth the $$$$$.
