Help with steering column

We need some guidance on removing a tilt steering column from one truck and installing it in another truck. We've never done this before so if there is a thread showing step by step....that would be awesome!!! 1978 Chevy Stepside 2wd.

Re: Help with steering column

first take the nuts off the steering box then follow the column up and you'll find a bolt and nut that is on the shaft of the steering column and take it off. then go up to the fire wall and take the two nuts off that are over the steering column, under the brake master cylinder. then go inside the truck and take the dash pieces off and unbolt the steering column brackets from the column and drop it out. pretty self explanitory. just start at one end and take all the nuts and bolts off and out of the way. watch the automatic shifter linkage if its an auto. good luck

Re: Help with steering column

One is an automatic and the other is a 3 on the tree. Not sure of how far inside the doghouse we have to go.

Re: Help with steering column

We are going to make it into an automatic. I am looking for an assembly manual now so that we have some pictures to go by. Not sure if we have to find a 78 manual or if other years will be just as good.
