What would you guys recommend I have a 60 chevy swb fleet everything is in decent shape....interior is primed, paint is ok, wheels and tires good, engine is fair...the only problems are that the speedometer and taillights don't work....and the guy before converted the 3 speed to automatic ....but I took it around the block and it didn't seem to change gears.....where should I put the money first??

I would work all the bugs out first. No use having a good lookin truck if you can't go nowhere.

I would fix the trans first. You can always figure out the lights while your waiting on the parts and who needs a working speedometer anyway.

Re: What do I need to do???
what are you running for a motor and plans for the truck? definitely get the bugs figured out first, speedo may be something as simple as the cable due to the tranny swap so look at what you want, streetable, daily driver, etc as you may need to swap the tranny out anyway and therefore speedo cable, lights...well you have an old truck, if this isn't a daily driver, do a, aftermarket electrical kit, time consuming for sure, but how reliable is old/patched wiring. You have the makings of a cool truck, take your time, have fun with it, and use this board to your fullest, any question no matter how obscure, there's bound to be someone who can help you out. welcome aboard, it's not a forum rule...but pics are always cool hahaha

Re: What do I need to do???
I agrre with everyone else. Get it running right first. I just picked up a 61 and it needs a lot of work, but getting it running, is first on my to do list.

Re: What do I need to do???
Yep, definitely the tranny first. The lights and speedo will be cheap to fix, although maybe a bit tedious to troubleshoot.

Re: What do I need to do???
The plans I have for the truck....well is to be a daily driven project.....if that makes sense ....I want something I can drive around town in .....but something reliable first where I know it'll make it around town.....the engine is a rebuilt 350 with a new edelbrock carburetor.....starts right up without having to pump the gas.....so I guess we will check the transmission first.....thanks

Re: What do I need to do???
Tranny fluid is probably low, preventing shifting. And I'd bet the speedo cable is disconnected, when I originally swapped out my 3 speed to a TH350 the stock speedo cable was too short to hook back up, so I never did... I bet that's your case too.

Re: What do I need to do???
I would check to see if the vacuum modulator for the trans is hooked up. Same for the speedo cable. As for the taillights, 9 times out of ten it's a grounding issue for taillights. I've had to run a ground wire from the bed to the frame to resolve taillight issues. Good luck!
