4" on mine. Cut the coils, a-arm kisses the bumpstop. Rides better than most old trucks I've ridden in.
or you can buy springs. or you can buy springs and spindles. get a swaybar! Won't lower the truck any but improves driveability 100% don't forget to get an allignment.

are you going to lower the front and not the rear? if so 4 inches is going to be a lot of rake.... deffinently get drop spindles plus springs for your desired drop if you want more than 2 inches,if it has drums on the front they don't make drop spindles for drums to my knowledge. a lot of guys on here use ECE http://www.earlyclassic.com/ for suspension and thats who I plan to use also.good luck and nice looking truck

GET A SWAYBAR DIY OR A KIT!!!
Then, depending on how low/and how much $ ya wanna spend.. Cut 1 loop off your stock springs then get an alignment Get drop springs then get an alignment Drop spindles and no alignment NEEDED but prolly a good idea if ya aitn got one in awhile... Or a combo

Re: How to lower a 1969 GMC truck ? ( front )
man changing the spindles is not that hard, you can do it. you have to pretty much take the spindle off anyway to change the springs/cut them . i would lean towards changing spindles and do a little cutting on the springs verse just cutting springs. you will still have alot of suspension travel with the spindles and it would ride better(hell in that case just like it rides now.
and it wont hurt to put disc brakes on it, much better brakes to make sure you are safe. |

I would change the spindles and front springs to get the height you want. (not that hard)and since your there, change out the ball joints. ( also not that hard) IMO, this is worth thinking about. that way you are good to go! cheers, Pat

Check out my build thread in my signature (Project Blank Slate) and it is everything you will need to know about lowering your '69.
I installed 2.5" drop spindles matched with 2" springs upfront; upgraded to 6-lug disc brakes and then lowered the rear with a 6" drop spring. New shocks on all four corners and shock relocators in the rear.
