Brake booster?
Can I just add a brake booster to my stock master cylinder or do I have to replace the MC

Re: Brake booster?
i beleive you can just add, but the cost of the combo booster/mc units are only a couple dollars more than booster alone.
do you already have the brackets to mount to the firewall?

Re: Brake booster?
You can, but you shouldn't. A non-power MC has a different bore size than a power MC. This can cause issues later. Look for a vacuum booster set up for 67 to 72. The mounting bracket will have a linkage setup to reset the pedal/rod ratio from non-power ratio to power ratio.
Here is a linc to Master Power Brakes. Their tech section has a lot of info. http://www.mpbrakes.com/

Re: Brake booster?
You can swap the MC sometimes. It all depends on the depth of the pushrod bore in the piston. Most manual cylinders have a deep bore so the pushrod won't fall out. PB cylinders can have either a deep or shallow bore, depending on the length of the booster pushrod.
Sometimes the cylinder bore size is different as ERASER5 said, but this is not always the case. Ray Last edited by raycow; 10-20-2010 at 11:04 PM. |
