Shifter/Transmission
My 47 Thriftmaster 1/2 ton Chevy truck still original has a floor shift with a lever on the side. Since I just got the truck a couple weeks ago and have not gotten it running yet I was wondering if anyone knew this shifter/transmission? Could it be a four speed with lever to go into reverse or maybe a three speed. Just wondering, have not been able to find any info. on transmission. Thanks!

Re: Shifter/Transmission
That lever is most likely for the parking brake. Crawl under and see if there is a rod attached to the bottom that runs back toward the rear.
All stock 47 transmissions, 3 or 4 speed, had a top shifter that is pretty much on center. Ray Last edited by raycow; 10-21-2010 at 02:50 PM. |

Re: Shifter/Transmission
Rod connected to the lever goes along the side of the shifter into transmission. Park brake is a separate handle. Thanks.

Re: Shifter/Transmission
Now you got me scratching my head. Are you saying that this lever is in addition to the normal shifter which goes into the top of the transmission? If yes, is there any chance of seeing a pic?

Re: Shifter/Transmission
It is not in addition to shifter it is part of it. It looks like this one I just found on ebay so it must not be stock. I know the truck is a 47 Thriftmaster which is a 1/2 ton. Here is the link to it if it works. Thanks!

Re: Shifter/Transmission
If I remember right I had a 39 truck that had that, I believe it was reverse lock out. 47 was a transition year, it might have a transmission with the old style lever.

Re: Shifter/Transmission
47 still used the older 4 speed with the reverse lockout lever. It is the unsyncro 4 speed.
