New boot from Houston with a 65,, well almost

My name is Chris and I am from Houston. I bought a 1965 C10 and the good news is the fleetside bed was taken off and set aside, so it looks great. The bad news is the cab, rockers and fenders are rough. I paid for it and went to pick it up, but the trailer was a 3/4 inch small. U haul says it will fit on a tow dolly, but I am not so sure. I was so frustrated I did not measure the truck or the trailer before I returned it. Does anybody know the width of the front tires and it will fit on a tow dolly for sure.

Re: New boot from Houston with a 65,, well almost

Welcome to the forum. The front tires on my 1960 GMC are 73-½” apart - from the outside of one tire to the outside of the other. I have a 1975 front suspension which is wider than stock, but my front wheels are 15x5 and very flat. Judging by the appearance of how far the slot mags stick out of the wheel wells, I’d guess your front track is probably about 4” wider overall. So I’d estimate it’s about 78” outside to outside, give or take a bit.

Here’s what mine looks like for comparison:

I know Chief towed his 63 on a U haul dow dolly with no problems. Of course he had stock wheels also.

Allright I rented the tow dolly from U-haul and towed it from Cut-N-Shoot to where I live by Houston (53 miles) with no problems.

Cool truck, and welcome to the madness. LOL.

What are your plans for that bad-boy?

Cool starting point, and welcome. I love the old slotted mags, I vote polish 'em up and keep 'em.

Oh yeah I like them. I plan on doing the old school hot rod suede with slots. It will be a fun project for me and the kids.
