Question ???? Son's amp

My son comes in and tells me his stereo isn't working. OK, so I go out to look see... The amp has 2 25amp fuses that are both good. Power light is red which has a statement wrote beside the light
Green light is power on.
RED light is protected????
So I check the wire from the battery to amp.
Fuse in the main cable that comes off the battery straight to the amp is blown so I install new fuse. Nothing changed it is still saying protected.
What does this tell me?

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: ???? Son's amp

Could be any number of reasons. My suggestion would be to start by double checking all your connections to the amp, especially your power/ground. Having a fuse blow means that something is wrong there (usually).

Secondly, if you're not afraid, open the amp and look for any signs of damaged circuits. Usually when you draw that much current, something is going to give. My guess is that its somewhere close to the power input side of the amp, near the power supplies. It may be very small, so look closely for any discoloration in the PCB, but be careful not to touch the board.

Talking Re: ???? Son's amp

I checked it out best I could yesterday. I disconnected everything and then hooked it all back up. It has a very light hum coming out of the speaker as though it wants to work but can't.
I guess it's time to take it to the stereo doctor and see what the problem is.

Re: ???? Son's amp

Yeah, without actually being able to look at it, its hard to make an eval. but to me it sounds like the amp is dead.

Re: ???? Son's amp

Any idea if the speaker combination is right for the amp (ohms or watts)? If the combinations are wrong it could pass to much power thru the amp and it will go into protect mode. Also extreme heat conditions will cause them to go into protect mode.

Thumbs up Re: ???? Son's amp

I bought the amp speaker over a year ago and had the local stereo shop install it. It just quit a few days ago.

Re: ???? Son's amp

sounds like a rockford fosgate amp problem to me. If so, they usually go into protect mode when its already too late Hope this isn't the problem though, good luck!

Re: ???? Son's amp

hook it all back up..
turn it on. and disconnect one speaker lead at a time and then toggle it off and on waiting a minute between off/on.
when it goes green you've found the short.
start with speaker wires, then move to the rca jacks.
