cab swap

i have a 78 chevy that got hit pretty hard from the side. i think it would be cheaper to just find a cherry cab and swap it with the old one as opposed to fixing the one that is on there now. will any cab from '73-'87 fit with my front end or do i need to get one from '73-'80

Re: cab swap

73-80 for ease, 78-80 for perfect match? Some differences on the cabs will be 73/74 had the wiper switch in a different location, not sure if the "hole" is the same on all the 73-80's though. Then there is the VIN plate on the dash, I think 78 was the first year for the VIN plate, I'd have to go look at my '74 and compare to my '87 to know more about it all though.

You could go with an 81-87 cab, but you'd have extra holes in the top of the cowl where hood hinges go that you don't need. Lots of variables there

Re: cab swap

do yourself a favor and swap with a 73-75 cab. that way you never need to smog. i just finished swapping a 74 gmc cab onto my 79 and it was completely worth the time and effort
