I would cut off those Camaro body mounts before you take it to get blasted though. They will be in the way of the braces that come up the toe-board of the cab. Even with them out of there and the factory welds ground down, the clearance is still pretty tight.

Once its all squared up and tacked on I will cut them off.
Im just using them for measurements at the moment.
Im stoked to finally be making good progress.

I missed my self-inflicted deadline to get it running and driving for... I'm kind of glad though, because now I can tear it down to the bare frame again and clean and paint it before it goes on the road. Not to mention that I have more time to spend on the body work and paint. There were too many things that I wasn't going to make "pretty" just to save time and get it on the road, only to come back at a later date to clean and paint/powdercoat later.

Yea I hear that. Always nice not to have to rush things.
Are you going to plate the inside of the rails? if so whats your idea. The sub frame sticks out about 1/4 inch to the inside.

I've been toying with the idea of boxing the frame, and I still haven't really decided. But I guess if I've been thinking about it this long, I should probably go ahead and do it when I have it apart. As far as where the subframe sits in the frame, I was just going to cut the boxing plate to fit right up to the subframe and weld it in.

I plan on boxing the entire length of the frame and then Xing it. (G machine)
Your idea will work but Im wanting to box it further towards the front.
Part of why i want to box the frame is so i can sandwich the plate and the sub frame. I will get some grade 8 bolts to put thru the truck frame, plate and sub frame. I plan on using five 1/2" bolts on each side along its length.
I plan on driving this truck very hard, so im probably designing it tougher than it needs to be.

finally completed the graft. here are some pics..

I used this weld thru primer and por-15 onthe areas I coulnt get to after I welded up the frames.
the weld thru primer worked great! it held up very well to the heat and only burned off there the welds were.
the por-15 held up ok and did not catch fire, which when there is a flame it uses up the mig gas.




Here are the under sections rounded up and clamped on right before i welded them up.



It was about to rain here yesterday so i went a head and slaped on some rustolum. It was more of a trial thing to see if i liked the color, and i think im going to use it. I just covered the bare metal surfaces at this point.

unfortunately I have to wait. I have to finsh my 64 chevy II first before I can swap my parts onto this.
anyone want to sand blast the frame for a trade? lol.
