1971 Super swb fleetside

So Im thinking of pulling out a project started a while back from storage and really wanted some info from guys who have the intentions of purchasing somehting like this or have sold something like this in the past or future. This should be all of us lol..

For sarters its still in paint shop form meaning all the glass is out and the hood and tailgate need to be put back on but its been fully painted back to the original red white two tone job. Factory ac and 350/350 drivetrain have all been rebuilt

Frame and factory suspension have been powdercoated and now Im thinking of resale value with the final touches. I know this is subjective and like I said Im gonna want soemwhere about 15k for this truck so with that in mind here is my thoughts..

Factory options are tilt,tach,ac.

Should I put in power 1 piece windows.

Should I lower it. Static or air. I defenitely not dropmembering this thing just because So I mean a nice art set up or static ece drop or stock on rallys?
If I lower it I have a set of 20 billets so that is the look I would have.

As far as interior goes factory was white but I HATE white so its either houndstooth or all black any opinions on resale of houndstooth? Maybe even a red/white or red black houndstooth?

Thats about it factory dash will get a updated two nobber style radio with the ipod connection for tunes but so I dont cut the dash.

I know this will be a lot of opinion based things so that is why I ask for some from people who would or have bought/sold these trucks around the 15k mark. Thanks as usual.

Re: 1971 Super swb fleetside

I wouldn't put one piece windows in, but that's because I like originallity. Slightly lowering it would be fine, makes the stance a lot better from pics I have seen. The black/red houndstooth would look pretty nice with a black interior. I would keep the houndstooth pattern just because it is a cheyenne super. The radio idea is a good one, something similar to what I am putting in mine. Do you happen to have any pictures? thanks and good luck..

Re: 1971 Super swb fleetside

If you are considering finishing the project to sell I would suggest caution in what the costs will be to finish. I know some will argue but in my opinion the market is very soft. I have seen some very nice truck sell for a decent price but I have seen many more sell for 50-75 cents on the dollar. It is a buyers market. This is just my opinion.

Yes I am totally in aggrement with you. Thats why i think lowering it is my big concer but a simple drop isnt very expensive as opposed to an ART system. I mean the interior is needed either way just a matter of color options really.

I think your target value of $15k is reasonable. I have recently tried to purchase a nice '72 SWB Cheyenne Super and been repeatedly turned down at $14k. The color is great and if the work is as good as it appears, you should be fine. If you want to keep it, drop it, if you want to sell it, leave it alone and let the buyer choose to do with it what they please. Just my opinion!

Re: 1971 Super swb fleetside

I would leave it as original as you can if you are going to sell it. Guys that are big into what is factory original to that truck (guys like me) are going to pay a premium for a truck optioned out like yours, and usually are not going to want alot of modifications. Where as the majority of guys who like alot of mods aerent as worried about what was original to that truck and usually wont pay the "Its a factory blah blah blah" premium. They usually build it to their taste, both the original and non original equipment. Not to mention you most likely won't get all of your $$ back if you do a bunch of mods just to sell if for more.

I would put in the one piece window myself if I were you. The after market window rubber is a pain in the you know what. It takes years to soften and work correctly. I know because I put all new rubber on my truck and I am here to say if I could do it over again I would do the one piece. That vent window is the biggest pain. Plus if somebody is going to break into your truck that will be the quickest way. Just putting my two cents in on the topic.

If you were to sell it right now what would your asking price be? Do you have all the parts needed to get it back together completely?

Simple ECE 4/6 static drop kit with rallies is tasteful and acceptable to most people who like stock or mod. You already have discs so it shouldn't be that much. It'll ride nice but you lose the 1/2 ton capacity in the bed.

You'd probably lose more people than you'd gain putting in 1 piece windows (though I like my truck without window vents).

My two cents

So I guess someone wouldnt knock out a 1 piece window to steal a truck??

Im pretty sure if someone wants to break into a truck, it probably wouldnt matter if you had a vent window or 1 piece window.

Before Flow-Thru ventilation came into being, it was the ventipanes, vent windows, whatever you wanna call 'em, that enabled us to get some cool air in the cabin and help with defogging the windshield. Turn 'em a whole lot and the air blows right in your face. Put in one-piece glass and you will be regretting it, at my house.

Re: 1971 Super swb fleetside

i think if you want 10k for it right now anyone that is thinking about starting a project should hop on this so fast there head would spin, if this truck is as nice as it looks in the pics, this is a steal !!! i dont know about California but in Arkansas you would have 10k in paint and body work alone (for a nice quality) and i would put a mild drop on it and nothing else , for resale purpose

Re: 1971 Super swb fleetside

Is the frame an original short bed frame or did you cut it down?
The cab is a lwb cab (127"),... stuff like that adds or subtracts value.
I would do stock upholstery and outside trim with a 4.5/6 inch static drop, and be done.
By the way,... it's going to be a beautiful truck!

Yes its a original 115 shortbed chassis and frame. The glove box door was from another project. This truck has the exact same options I think minus the tinted glass. Good eye
