What are your thoughts on Bazooka base tubes?

They make great bases for a table or nightstand...

Seriously, don't even bother. What you get is minimal at best. You'd be much better off with a Pioneer 12" sub in a prefab box and a small amp to power it...

My uncle had one behind his seat in his little toyota pick up. He as powering the stock fronts off the deck, and the addition of the bazooka tube was enough for him, "It gives me enough Boom-Boom" is what he would say. He listens to mostly 50's/60's car show stuff.

I personally would never waste my own money on one...I listen to my systems turned up a lot higher than he did, and at high volumes, it fell off fast if you ask me.

Alot of times the "fall off" is due to a lower quality head unit and lower quality amps. Speakers are dumb and they do as they're told. If you're sending them nothing but crap, that's what you'll get. The problem with the bass tubes and generally all powered subs is that the amp that is built into them is of the lowest quality and engineered for costs and compactness.

I used to not believe in the idea that a higher end amp would sound much better than the run-of-the-mill stuff, but then I got to demo the entire Hertz/Audison line-up and I am here to tell everyone that there is a VERY noticeable difference... Good amps will go a very long way in producing great sound...

Thanks to both of you for the advice.

I had been planning on running an Alpine head unit with a Rockford Fosgate amp for the 6x9's and was looking for a compact sub that would fit behind the seat, that's why I was checking out the Bazooka.

I took your advice on a larger sub and have found a 10" and 12" JL sub in a "truck" style box that's in line (power wise) with the amp. So, what are your thoughts on those?

I have used nothing but Memphis products for a while and have many friends with competition systems using Memphis. Their PR line is a good deal and the sound is awesome, they also have shallow mount subs too.

I hav ea PR10 and PR amp in my DD annd it will hit real low when you want it to. This is run by a 8 year old Sony deck.

the tubes are good if your only wanting to hear boom boom boom.
and don't care if the sound is good..
if your not into the boom boom boom.
get a 10" sub and an inclosed box(or build it)
inclosed box =tight bass but is powerhungry, you'll want a good amp.(rockford fosgate/jl audio /etc)
a ported box. is a little looser and not as powerhungry.. for the same loudness..
a bandpass box. is loose and boomy and only good for rap/hip hop
that don't want sound just THA BOOM
I sealled box with a 12" will be more than enough for most.. to get the lows but not overpower the rest of the sound..
if running a mono amp single voice coil if your running a single sub and like the double bass of some rock but don't want two subs a dual voice coil sub is for you..
just don't do as I did with my first box..
it was 2 dual voice coil subs wired in a way that cause the kenwood monoblock amp(100watts, it was the 80's) into running at a 1 ohm load.. when we pulled the amp and took it back still under warranty,,(11 months later when it gave up)
and it came back. the place (tweeter etc) car audio guy said the circurt board soiler was mostly on the bottom of the amp house'n..
and asked how it was wired,,when I told him, he laughed so hard he was red..
they where amazed it lasted that long that way..
