81 Chevy C10 Tail Light fuse blow when Head Light turmed on - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I replace my 81 Chevy C10 Short bed steering colum with one out of a 1988 GMC Suburban, Now the Tail Light fuse blow every time I turn on head lights. Currently I do not have Tail, Park and Dash Lights.

I replaced Rear Body harness
I replaced Head Light Switch

I had the same thing happen on my truck. It turned out I had some damaged wires by the back bumper that were shorting out.

you have a short to ground... so probably a power wire is chafed enough so the wire touches the body or frame.... easy way is to buy a couple of fuses. disconnect the rear harness (the one you just installed), replace the burnt fuse. operate the lights. do they work? if yes, the problem is from the rear tail light harness to the bulbs. if no, sounds like the new headlight switch might be wrong or bad.

Thanks, problem fixed, it was in the front harness, the left marker light wires had chafed and touching body.

It's a pain in the tookis to find problems like that, isn't it?
