Re: bolt bed to frame under wood?

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! After hearing all the comments I think I'm either going to put the bolts back through the wood or bolt the cross sills/weld the bolt heads before putting the wood down since my truck is used as a truck.

I will post pics after the wood is in.

Re: bolt bed to frame under wood?

Oh, sorry guys I finished the bed a while ago and got started on other things...you know how it is

Anyways, I decided to go ahead and drill holes in the floor and put the bolts through the wood. I use my bed to haul stuff in and didn't want to worry about the cross sills breaking.

I also decided to hinge the board over my fuel cell in the bed using some brackets my brother made for me...he's an engineer.

I'll send a couple pics I have on my comp right now and will try to remember to take a couple better ones with it finished tomorrow during the daytime.

Sorry the pics aren't that good...I don't have a good cameraName: IMG00071-20100904-1846.jpg

Re: bolt bed to frame under wood?

I'm sure someone is going to ask, so I'll go ahead and say a little about the wood.

I got this wood from a friend that operates a portable sawmill for less than $20.00 it's southern yellow pine with a couple coats of spar poly on it.

I'll paint the boards either the same color as the truck or black when the poly starts to fail...probably next summer.

Re: bolt bed to frame under wood?

since it was apart, I would have sanded and stained it there and then. Would have saved a lot of hassle in the long run. But now it gives u an excuse to do the suspension maybe? haha

Re: bolt bed to frame under wood?

Yeah, suspension and steering upgrades are next on the list.
