62-vs-63 rear coils?

A friend of mine picked up a 62 with some bad heated coils, he looked in the lmc catalog and they only offer 63-66.
Are the rear coils different 60-62, 63-66?
I know the frames are different and the 60-62 rear will not bolt directly into a 63-66, but can't see why the coils would be different.

Re: 62-vs-63 rear coils?

I think they are the same. I know the saddles on the rear axle are a little farther apart on 60-62 than on 63-66, but I don't think the spring changed. If I remember correctly, when I bought springs for my truck, they were listed as 60-72. ??

Re: 62-vs-63 rear coils?

they might just have a different rate, mostly we need to know if the multitude of 63-66 rear springs I have will work in his 62.

Re: 62-vs-63 rear coils?

I think the 58-66 springs refer to US GMC rear leafs, a few lines down they show C10/910 coils 60-66, (910,920,930 are canadian GMC s which are coil rear and have chevy engines) And to answer the origonal question the springs in the rear of my '62 are from a '66 same spring slightly different location

perfect, that will help us, all he wants is to get the ride back, the heated coils are alittle rough!

Re: 62-vs-63 rear coils?

Moog/ Federal Mogul Catalogs lists C10 Rear Spring 6101 as heavy duty and CC603 as Cargo Coil, 63-66,67-72. 1963 was the first year for variable rate springs. They had a section of closely spaced springs for added comfort ride.
