Re: cowl screen install

I have thought of doing this myself, I have a **** load of leaves in mine. I have look at it several times and it dose not look a that difficult to remove the Cowl. Looks as though there are a couple of bolts on either side and a hand full of screws here and there, I think that is all there is to it, or at least what I am hoping for.

OH, almost forgot, I think the hardest part of getting the cowl of will be removing the wiper arms. I tried once to get them off, but gave up cause I did not want to break them during winter.

Thumbs up Re: cowl screen install

I took my cowl off today. It took less than five minutes. Two bolts on each side and the screws across the top. Amen to the wipers as the tricky part. You have to take a screwdriver and unclip the little lip under the wiper head and gently pry the wiper up. Make sure you use a cloth or something under your lever so you don't jack your paint. Good luck and let me know how the screens work.

Re: cowl screen install

this has been done a couple different way in the past. try doing a search for "cowl screen" and see what pops up. I also know there are vendors who make screens just for this purpose.

Re: cowl screen install

I used some 3/8" steel screen on mine and I think it looks pretty good. You have to cut a few holes (wiper arms, etc) out IIRC so it fits nice and flush.

Re: cowl screen install

i bought the stainless screens from LMC, I'm just worried that when I get it off, getting back in place and fitted right will be a problem

You're over thinking it. The cowl pretty much only fits one way, no alignment issues. The only hassle is getting the cowl seal and screens to stay in place when putting the cowl back on. Still not too bad, 1/2 hour job at best.

Re: cowl screen install

I bought stainless screen from Home Depot that is cut to fit rain gutters. Couple of bucks each. Trimmed them and fit them to the underside of the cowl cover. Secured with black silicone (form-a-gasket). Been holding for 3 years.

x 2. I put screens on both my trucks. Very straightforward job.

Re: cowl screen install

If you use the aftermarket screens, take a few bread ties, tie wraps or whatever and align the screen with the cowl then tie them together.Once you have the cowl in place use an awl or small screwdriver for final alignment. Then clip the ties.

Re: cowl screen install

I am getting ready to buy some screen for my cowl but want to have everything on hand when I get ready. How does a stock screen attach to the cowl? Any ideas? I really dont want to use silicone or any other type of glue, Thanks!

Your Making it too hard, and that's coming from ME and I was even able to do it.
I bought mine from LMC in the Stainless Steel.
It does the job and look SO MUCH MORE Classy too!
